Referees

BYHA Needs Referees!

If you're interested in giving back to the game of hockey and making some additional money while doing so, follow the steps below to become a referee.

For additional questions please contact the referee scheduler.

STEPS TO BECOME A REFEREE

  1. Go to USA Hockey and register as an official. You need a separate USA Hockey Number for officiating.
  2. Complete Safesport if it applies to you - if you will be 18 or are 18 or older.
  3. Register for the appropriate level seminar and attend seminar. If you have never officiated before, this will be a level 1. If you officiated in the past, but have not for several years, you may need to start at level 1.
  4. Complete online modules. (online modules paused for 2024-2025 season)
  5. Take and pass your Officiating Test (online test paused for 2024-2025 season)

You can complete modules prior to the seminar or after the seminar or a combination of the two. In order to be certified and to officiate you must have all steps complete and receive your patch. (2024-2025 guidelines do not include online modules)

Once you have completed all requirements, reach out to the referee scheduler to be added to the list of available referees for game scheduling.
