2023/2024 BYHA Coach Registration Form

If you have interest in being a coach in BYHA for the 2023/2024 season, please complete the following Coach Registration.

BYHA Website Help for Team Managers and Coaches

  •  If you already have a SPORT NGIN account, login and "Become a Member"
  • If you do not not already have a SPORT NGIN account, please click on the “Create an Account” link in the upper left corner of the page.
  • Enter a unique Username and Password for yourself (please write this down and keep track of it) and click “Sign Up”.
  • Then you can login, go to your team’s page and begin editing the content.
  • When logged in and going to your team’s pages, you will see the “Edit Mode” tab in the upper right corner.
  • Click on the “Edit Mode” tab and use the “Page Elements” to edit or add Text, Photos, Documents, Events, News Articles, Links, Contact Info, YouTube Videos, etc.
  • Please note that your Team page comes with a Roster and a Game Schedule. You are able to use these pages at your discretion.
  • You may also “Add New Pages” under your team’s main page section to organize additional content.

  • If you need any help with any of the Page Elements, the first step you can take is to visit the SPORT NGIN Knowledgebase to search for articles and helpful information.
  • If you are unable to find the answer there, please contact NGIN Support.

ARTICLE V – COACHES’ CODE OF ETHICS

 

Coaches WILL….

  1. Keep in mind that the player is the most important part of the program and that fun, learning and developing is more important than winning.
  2. Understand the rules of the game and share that understanding with the players.
  3. Treat the players fairly and equally.
  4. Maintain a neat appearance.
  5. Be prompt for all practices and games.
  6. Display kindness, consideration, and understanding towards the players.
  7. Share ideas and techniques with other coaches for the betterment of the program.
  8. Be considerate of other teams.
  9. Be well prepared for practices.
  10. Have a positive attitude at all times.
  11. Have knowledge of first aid.
  12. Teach players to respect officials’ decisions.
  13. Educate players on rules and regulations, importance of skill development, and use of outdoor ice time and off-season development.

Coaches WILL NOT…

  1. Use offensive language.
  2. Solicit players for their own team.
  3. Use tobacco or alcohol in the presence of the players.
  4. Use drugs at any time.

Coaches SHOULD….

  1. If of legal age, use alcohol and tobacco in a responsible manner at all times. Drinking by coaches not of legal age will not be tolerated.
  2. Any disciplinary action involving suspension of a player must be reported by the coach to the HDC Chairperson.
  3. Non-compliance with this code of ethics will result in a review of the coach by the HDC.
  4. The HDC will determine disciplinary action.
  5. In the event of questions or concerns, the procedure to follow is:
  6. Take the concern to the party involved, i.e., coach, official, parent, etc.—at an appropriate time and place.
  7. Take the concern to the Age Group Rep
  8. Take the concern to the BYHA Grievance Committee

Coaching Development

Coach Certification

Here are the required steps to complete your Coaching Registration with BYHA and USA Hockey 

 

Step 1:  USA Hockey Registration -  https://www.usahockeyregistration.com/login_input.action

Be sure to register as a Coach. Please PRINT and SAVE your confirmation code. You will need the confirmation number in Step 2.  The registration for USA Hockey requires a $50 fee. Your USA hockey registration fee will be reimbursed by the Association.  

 

Step 2:  BYHA Coach Registration - Click on the Coach Registration and proceed. During this registration session you will need to enter the USA Hockey Confirmation Code that you received in Step 1.

 

Step 3:  MN Hockey Background Screening - Coaches are required to complete screening every 2 years. Click Here:  http://screening.minnesotahockey.org/ to go to the MN Screening form to complete the background check information required of all Minnesota Hockey Coaches. Be sure to type in Bemidji for the name of our association. (Do NOT use the abbreviation BYHA.) For the MH district, Bemidji is District 16. If you are unsure how to see if you did last year there are instructions in your NGIN profile. BYHA cannot tell you will need to research.

 

Step 4Complete Safe Sport training - http://www.usahockey.com/safesporttraining Safesport training needs to be completed every two years as well. It takes about 1.5 hours to complete all classes.

 

***** New This Year ******* Step 5 – Concussion Testing – Starting this season, each coach will be required to complete concussion training once every two years. Coaches must provide an acknowledgement form with proof of training to the association prior to participating in any team activities. The acknowledgement form and a list of concussion training options is attached and on the website. Be sure to print sign and email to Betsy Bignall at betsy.bignall@yahoo.com.

Steps 1-5 MUST be completed no later than Oct 1 and/or before coaches will be allowed on the ice for any activity.

 

Step 6. Complete age-appropriate modules:  http://www.usahockey.com/page/show/892966-age-specific%20modules If you have already completed the module for the age you will be coaching at you are good to go. If not this needs to be completed.

 

Step 7: CEP Coaching Clinics:  http://www.usahockey.com/coachingclinics

If you are required to move up a level you need to attend a clinic by December 31st. There will be clinics in Crookston posted but be sure to stay on top if this and attend a class if you need to or you will not be able to get certified and coach.

 

Steps 6 and 7 must be completed by 12/31 of current season.

MITE Level Coaches can coach with an expired CEP. All other coaching staff need to have valid, current CEP in order to participate with on-ice activities
