Here’s most of what you need to know for this weekend at the Bemidji Community Arena. We don't anticipate any changes to the schedule, but we have been working through a lot of challenges this season so we cannot promise that the schedule won't be amended.
Friday Night – Play-In Games
- Each team will play one Friday night play-in game. (This is the 4 pools that aren't really pools, but its the easiest way to organize it in our software).
- Everyone from these games will move into an 8-team bracket starting Saturday morning.
- To keep the bracket moving, all games must produce a winner and a loser.
- All games, including Friday games, will follow our overtime format.
- Games will consist of 3 -15 minute time-stop periods with resurfacing between games.
- Only the official game clock will be used, we don't use a separate "rink" clock. If the rink schedule falls behind, it falls behind.
- District 16 uses 2 minute minor penalties, not the 1:30 min rule.
Saturday – Bracket Play
- Bracket action starts Saturday morning.
- Each team will play two games on Saturday, depending on Friday’s results (winners vs. loser, losers vs. winners). The obvious incentive to win on Friday night is that you get to play a team coming off a loss, but if you lose Friday night, you are still in the running for the championship.
Sunday – Finals & Consolation Games
- Each team will play one game on Sunday.
Additional Notes & Reminders:
- All games will take place at the Bemidji Community Arena. There are two rinks there (First National and Sanford Health). The Sanford Health Rink is NOT the Sanford Center.
- We also have other games, including Bemidji High School "Hockey Fights Cancer" running the same weekend — thank you for helping us keep things moving smoothly.
- Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled start time for warm-ups. You may be asked to start a few minutes early if everything is ready to go.
- Just a quick note to parents: we understand that this may be the first out-of-town competitive travel experience for many of you and your players. Our goal for the weekend is simple, focus on your player having fun, spending time with teammates, and enjoying the experience.
- Please also be aware that, because this is a younger age level, we may use developing referees. Just like our players are learning and growing, our association is committed to developing officials as well. We ask that everyone remain patient and supportive and focus on the players’ effort and sportsmanship rather than officiating decisions. The cameras in our rink pick up sound, so speak accordingly.
- This only ever applies to a few, but if you are kicked out of the rink, you don't get to come back for the rest of the weekend.
We’re excited to see everyone on the ice! Thanks for your cooperation, and let’s have a great weekend of hockey!
